Energy flow therapies fall into two general categories, those therapies which either do not touch you directly or touch you only lightly. This can include such things as:

Psychic Healing

I am making a distinction between Psychic Healing and Reiki because the practitioners see their methods as being very different. My own take on the two is that Psychic Healers have a natural talent for channeling healing by the laying on of hands to concentrate the life force, even being able to absorb the condition into themselves. Live psychic readings often focus significantly on healing aspects.

Reiki is a skill which can be taught taught to anyone. The process of opening to the Universal Life Energy and channeling this energy to the patient are covered in Reiki courses which cover three levels of ability and proficiency. Psychic abilities are generally not a skill that can be taught to anyone.


Reiki is a safe, effective healing system that uses Universal Life Energy to help dissolve problems and return the body, mind, emotions and spirit to their natural perfect state. Literally translated, Reiki means Universal Life Energy. The Reiki Healer channels Universal Life Energy through the hands into the receiver’s body and aura.

Unlike massage, there is no body manipulation – the energy is transferred simply by placing the hands lightly on the body in a sequence of positions lasting around 3-5 minutes each. Reiki sessions can be as short as 5 minutes or as long as an hour or more, and can be given with the receiver in a seated position or lying down. Reiki can also given through Distance Healing when the receiver is not physically present, as we are all connected by Universal Life Energy at the spiritual level.

You do not have to be ill to benefit from receiving Reiki energy, as it also provides limitless benefits of physical, mental and emotional balance as well as spiritual growth for both the healer and the receiver. During the Reiki healing session it is common for either the healer and/or the receiver to experience heat, tingling, deep peace, or feelings ranging from very subtle to very obvious. Reiki is an ancient art that has been practiced by many cultures, and is not affiliated with any particular religion.


Shiatsu is a form of Oriental Therapy evolved from a 5000 years old tradition of healing arts. Shiatsu utilizes a combination of pressure and assisted-stretching techniques, some of which are common to other therapies, such as Massage, Physiotherapy, Acupressure, Osteopathy, Lymphatic Drainage, Do-in and others.

The Shiatsu treatment:

  • stimulates the circulation and the flow of lymphatic fluid
  • releases toxins and deep seated tensions from the muscles
  • stimulates the hormonal system and the immune system
  • and acts on the autonomic nervous system

Thus allowing the recipient to relax deeply and to get in touch with own healing power.


Reflexology or zone therapy, is the practice of stimulating particular points on the feet, hands, or ears, which represent different organs and areas of the body. The most common form is foot reflexology. Practitioners believe the foot to be divided into a number of reflex zones corresponding to all parts of the body, and that applying pressure to tight or sensitive areas of a person’s foot will stimulate the corresponding body part and cause it to begin healing itself.

In reflexology, it is believed that there is a “vital energy” that is circulating between organs of the human body, that penetrates into every living cell. Whenever this energy is blocked, the corresponding organ will be affected. Therefore, if someone has a problem in a particular organ, a reflexologist will press or massage the corresponding reflex zone or zones until sensitivity is felt.

This sensitivity is claimed to originate from the deposition of crystals in the reflex zone and, with massage, these crystalline structures can be broken down and the pain relieved. Simultaneously, the pressure applied to the reflex zones by the reflexologist is claimed to pass through the nerves to dissipate energy blocks.

My Hair Story

Here it goes..

Growing up i never really appreciated my hair because all my friends would have such straight hair in the hot humid new york heat but mine would go from being straight to frizzy, from frizzy to puffy and from puffy to all my curls trying to come in. I grew hating my hair. i permed it but that just took out the waves and left me with long curly hair. i never understood why mine just curled up and everyone else was so beautiful and straight.
In 2005 i said to my self “eff this I’m not perming my hair anymore for many reasons. One because it cost too much damn money, 35 dollars is when your late teens and jobless. Two, because everyone i knew kept telling me “i hope you don’t perm your hair” or ” you have such nice hair why do you perm it?” Three, around 2002, Ā i was introduced to the glorious DominicanĀ hair salon and when i went months without a perm and just let them blowout my hair and it would look so straight and pretty. And the main reason, i honestly didn’t need it, i just never really knew how to manage my hair. i just figured long straight hair would be easier to manage than long curly hair.

With much to factor in i stopped with the perms and went strictly heat by way of my DominicanĀ hair stylist; little did i know heat from the dryer, heat from the blow dryer and then more heat from a flat iron all at once would rob my beautiful hair of it curls luster bounce, and fullness. i brutalized my hair with all these heat damaging things still thinking curly hair was ugly. i wanted bone straight hair so bad. then one day in 2009 my father looked at me and said what happen to your hair, it lost it’s luster.
I looked in my bathroom and saw the damage my once full long hair just laid, flat. limp, and lifeless hair and it just hung from my head. Well, i got my wish straight hair alright, straight, thin and lifeless. my hair was horribly heat damaged. It was so damage to the point, when i would let my hair air dry; the middle wouldn’t even curl up like the rest of my hair it just puffed up. i lost the curl pattern in that part of my hair.
since knowing that my curl pattern was ceasing to exist that when i searched for a change, to save my hair and my curls. In 2010, I been trying to regain fullness but still using heat not learning any less because i still enjoyed having straight hair but with out the use of a 450 degree flat iron. As I am writing, remember everythingĀ i was doing to my hair makes me laugh, we live and learn right?
It wasn’t until late 2011 i embraced MY beautiful 3b/3c hair. i found different hairstyles i could do with out heat to restore limp damage hair. Now its 2012, I’ve now decided to go natural without using heat and working with my curly hair. My goal is to hopefully gain fuller, healthier mid back length hair.

While in this journey to achieve full MBL hair I’m going to come back and forth to this blog with my experience with products and my research to sure with my natural ladies.

I am no cosmetologist, just a regular woman trying to bring her curls and life back to her.
